I specialise in all mental health issues with children and young people including ADHD and Autism. I have vast experience of working within CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) within the NHS and offer full and comprehensive assessments which inform direct therapeutic interventions and evaluation of mental health care to children, young people and their families in line with national guidelines.
I am a qualified counsellor, experienced CAMHS Mental Health Therapist, ADHD Nurse and Registered Mental Health Nurse. I have worked in the NHS for over 35 years, recently as an NHS Online Mental Health Therapist for young people. I am also a counsellor for a local High School.
I am specially trained to improve the mental health of children and young people. I work in partnership with parents and carers to support your child’s health and care needs. I’m trained and experienced to help your child work through issues in a confidential and professional way. I work within BACP and NMC codes of ethics and receive regular supervision, giving you reassurance I am an ethical practitioner.
What is mental health ?
Mental health is a huge area but it can help to think of it as “the way we think and feel”; and “how we manage through life’s ups and downs”. Child and adolescent mental health is also about how young people are developing emotionally and how their thinking may be affecting their behaviour.
Is it a phase or more serious problem?
Friends and family that we don’t see very often will point out just how much our children are changing. Change is the one constant that is true of all children. Knowing whether they are going through a natural stage of change or whether they may be having a mental health difficulty is not always obvious; so seeking expert advice about an issue which you may not fully understand is not something to feel embarrassed about, instead it can be the best step for everyone concerned.
Working with you, my aim is to help your child if their thoughts, feelings and behaviour become difficult for them to cope with. I pride myself on my dedication to work with you and your child to develop tailor made support for the whole family.
What do I offer?
Talking, listening and thinking about things that might help, is all that most children that visit me need. Very occasionally, where a child or young person needs more help, we may decide that your child should have a GP consultation. I am happy to liaise with your GP and forward my assessments and reports. I will always explain what it involves, why I think it will help and the choices available to you and your child.
A large part of my services are about working with you, offering support and guidance to better understand your child’s mental health difficulties and ways in which you can help.
I also work with adults. I have worked with McMillan Palliative & Bereavement Service & also with CRI, with clients & families affected by Alcohol & Drugs.
My practice is located in a light and peaceful room enabling children and young people to feel relaxed and welcome.
I offer a free 30-minute consultation which enables you and your child to see if I’m the right counsellor for you.
I am ideally located for Warrington, Altrincham, Hale, Bowden and Cheshire. Please feel free to contact me for an initial chat but, before you do, you may want to know a little about me, so simply further explore my website to see how I can help, or if you’d prefer to have a chat straight away, please just get in touch!
